My Interview with Clemy Warner-Thompson

1. Tell us a little about The Mirage?

It is sequel to The Star- a fantasy book which introduces Abbii, an eighteen year old who discovers that she has powers and decides to go on the run to search for the answers she seeks. The Mirage follows on directly, proving that even with the information she’s found, Abbii is more lost than ever. She longs for the one person she’ll never forget- her best friend Jake, though will she allow Darkness to consume her so that she can find him? It is a story of friendship, betrayal and the power one has within their emotions.

2. What was the inspiration for The Star and The Mirage?

All of my work, including these two books, are based on the differences between Light and Darkness- not just as elements but the good and evil within every person. I wanted to write a tale that explained that even if you are ‘good’, things happen that may change the way you think. Even if you lose your way and question everything in your life, that ‘good’ still remains. Life is what you make it, after all. Through Abbii’s eyes, I tell a tale of how easy it is for each and every one of us to lose our way, but also the clear fact that things will get better. You just have to believe in yourself.

3. Who do you see yourself as the most in your books?

I guess every writer sees a bit of themselves in each of their characters, I’m no different. Abbii feels lost and doesn’t know how to make the life she wants- I have never known what career I wanted or how to get through the toughest of times. Nate and Jake stand for determination- no matter how tough times have been or will be in the future, I’m not giving up. Max, Alice, even the twins, they are all parts of the person I am, though not the person I necessarily show. Let’s just see how the reader interprets them.

4. Tell the readers a little about yourself.

I would have most definitely gone crazy if I hadn’t have fallen into the habit of writing! I started when I turned 13 and I’ve never looked back. Writing is part of me. I love to design my characters; I love to draw whenever I can. I used to read a lot, but I barely have chance now! Writing is a hobby but I hope it becomes more that that in the future. My brother was the influencing party which pushed me into writing, but he gave up with his stories a while back. I will keep going, for both of us.

5. Is there plans for a sequel to The Mirage?

Definitely. No doubt about it. The sequel will be the final of this set!

6. If you could spend the day with any writer dead or alive, who would it be and why?

I remember reading The Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paulini. I was so enthralled with the world he created I had to finish the series. I would love to see his office and all the notes and doodles that lead onto the Inheritance Cycle.

7. Which of your characters would you like to spend the most time with?

Hmm, that’s a difficult one. I would love to give Abbii a sharp talking to, she needs a kick in the right direction sometimes, but who am I to turn down a few hours with Nate or Jake, even Max 😉 Aeron and Vee would be great company too; they are the life of the party!

8. Who is the most favorite character you created?

Again, that’s a tough one. I love Jake in his own way, but out of the main group, I think I like Max the most. He is your typical ‘save the world’ type!

9. Who is the least favorite character you created?

I hate Taro, but he brought an evil streak into the book which I couldn’t have added any other way. I also don’t like Colleen much, but then again, she brings a sprinkle of spice into the College!

10. What would you do differently in your writing career?

Ask for feedback and opinions BEFORE publishing! I have a tendency to publish and then ask for feedback. Definitely the wrong way round!

11. What advice would you give to aspiring authors?

Don’t give up. If you have ideas flowing through you when you’re sat on the bus, or when you’re with family and friends, the chances are you are a writer. Even if you can’t get the words out straight or you struggle putting scenes together, keep going. Writer’s block? Beat that sucker!

Author Bio:

Clemy was born in the UK in 1991 where she still lives, growing up alongside one younger and three older brothers.

Books and writing was an interest that she began to develop from the first years of secondary school, and on her thirteenth birthday, she began to plan and design the idea to write a fantasy novel. She finished secondary school with high GCSE’s and then went on into further education to study English and all aspects of art and design. After six years of writing, planning and overall editing of the book, it was successfully completed, containing over 82,000 words, and self published in the first week of 2011.

With high expectations in herself, she immediately began to write a second novel in the series, while keeping her art and design a part of the process. The achievement of completing the first novel ‘Purest Light,’ allowed the ideas of the second to flow much easier and it was completed by early 2012. As she was writing the third and final book, New Beginnings, at the same time, the series was finished by its publication in 2013.

Writing is now a part of her everyday and she has now started her newest project, The Mirage, which is book two of three.
