Book Review: Silently Still by Julieanne Lynch

Silently Still CoverEveryone is entitled to making their own choices in life, but a decision can make or break you. For Jacinta Kelly, hers came in the form of running away from everything that reminded her of her roots.
Living in rural Ireland was hard enough, but living with her mother’s mental illness and her obsession with her garden took its toll. One winter, the world as she knows it changes. Jacinta becomes aware of her own mortality, and how fragile her existence truly is.
Alone and frightened; to live or die, the choice is hers.

review

Julieanne Lynch is a good friend of mine. It was an honor to get a chance to read this book before its release. I got the book as an ARC (Advanced Reader’s Copy) from Julieanne.

I found this book to be very touching. You have to be a robot not to cry while reading this book. The story is about a woman named Jacinta Kelly. She returns to her childhood home in Doneghal after the death of her mother.

Jacinta has struggled with depression, just like her mother. This was relieved in a rather masochistic way when she was a girl.

Jacinta gets torn down in her childhood through the deaths of loved ones and bullying by some of her classmates. This is a story of hope and the struggle to find it in the worst situations that exist in a person’s life. I had trouble putting this book down.

Julieanne does a very good job of portraying the local dialect and making you see exactly what’s going on in this small town on the Irish coast.

My Rating:

5of5

Escaping Shadows

barely had time to accept her new life, never mind the prospect of
motherhood, but she finds herself, yet again thrown into chaos, only
this time there is more than just her life at stake.

Awakening in a world among the angels, Giselle finds friendship
with Ysoriel, an archangel, but little does she realise that Aurelius
is under the watchful eye of Xavier and his minions, and soon enough
Giselle falls prey to their wickedness.

Loyal and dashing Antoine does all he can to protect Giselle from
Alex and Atarah, but underestimates the power of Xavier, taking him
down to the pits of the Shadow World and a battle that see’s him
question his own existence.

With vampires and shadow creatures vying for her life, can Giselle
escape the darkness consuming her, or will she finally descend into
the world of shadows?

Fighting Shadows

When we all
think of Hell, we assume the worst. A world controlled by the darkest
of entities, a place where man cannot outwit the devil himself, and
survival is almost impossible.

Giselle is about to find out exactly how twisted Hell can be…

As Giselle travels through a Hell she never believed existed. Her
wit is tested beyond belief, and all the while her closest companion
Antoine fights to keep her sanity intact, whilst battling the
incessant desire burning deep inside him.

Atarah teams up with Xavier to finally bring Giselle’s existence
to an end, and raise baby Kaden as their own, but Alex is more than
willing to end his son’s life to spite them all.

Will Giselle finally break free from the lure of the Shadows?

Can she avoid falling for the call of the Nymph?

Will Kaden survive the battle of all battles; Giselle and Alex?

Nothing has prepared Giselle for what is about to happen.

Join Giselle as she brings closure to a story that catapulted her
from her once ordinary life, to a world darker, and faster than
anything she ever imagined.

book excerpt

The bright light hurt my eyes as we walked past the plumage of the orange grove. The sweet fragrance of the orange blossoms was almost overwhelming, but my senses welcomed the sweetness. We walked further and further into what seemed like a dense forest, passing a waterfall, with bridges over streams and koi ponds.

My eyes tried to take in as much as they could, but the beauty of what met me was not only astonishing, but overwhelming.

We stood on the edge of a rock, and stared out across a vast ocean. The water was still and calm, and very unlike the oceans I had seen as a child. No swells crashed against the rocks below, there was no howling, instead the air that surrounded us was warm and carried aromas of the sweet infusions from the orange blossoms behind us.

My eyes hurt in the bright light, but nothing could make me take my eyes of this wondrous sight. Ysoriel stood with her arms stretched out, raising them towards to the sky. Continue reading

book excerpt

Chapter 1

I felt his eyes on me before I returned the look. He knew what I was thinking, and, like always, he knew the right way to cheer me up. Best friends were like that, and Alex was, without a doubt, my knight-in-shining armour. He was like my shadow, and the last six years proved to me just how dependable he had become.

“We need sugar, and lots of it!” he practically shouted, pulling into the lot.

“But we’ll be late for school! I can not have another detention, Alex, and besides, I need to see  Marc before class,” I sighed.

“Well, Marc can wait. Strawberry glaze or chocolate sprinkles?” he asked as he got out of the car. Continue reading
