Book Review: Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts One and Two

harry-potter-cursed-child-final-coverThis book presents itself as one thing, the printing of the rehearsal script of a play. The book reads as such.

HARRY POTTER AND THE CURSED CHILD PARTS ONE AND TWO takes place where JK Rowling left us in the Epilogue to HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS. But instead of following Harry, we follow the adventures of his youngest son, Albus Severus Potter, and his best friend, Scorpius Malfoy.

This seems like an unlikely pair considering that their fathers did not get along at all as children nor adults. In this story you learn more about Draco, Harry, Ron, Ginny, and Hermoine than you knew before as well as the adventurers Albus, Scorpius, and ‘Delphini’.

It is a great read and will hook you from the moment you begins reading it. I know it did me. Though, I have read all the other Harry Potter books so it makes sense that I would read this story as well.

But it reads like a script more akin to reading Shakespeare than JK Rowling.

As with any script to a play, you can imagine the visuals from the directions in the script. You can feel the tension, the intrigue, and the emotions. It was a masterful job and well written.

I love the adventure of Albus and Scorpius and how they set out to prove that they are not the outcasts that everyone makes them out to be. That the bullies are just those bullies. Also, the kids prove that not every good intention in magic turns out for the better, some backfire in a big, very nasty way.

I give HARRY POTTER AND THE CURSED CHILD PARTS ONE AND TWO:

New Covers for the Tunuftol series by Ann Snizek

author-pic.jpg.jpgHello. Here’s a bit about Ann Snizek in her own words…

I’m the youngest out of 7 and a daughter of an immigrant. My dad’s family were very active in the live theatre for years with my grandmother being an actress who did costumes and sets while my grandfather was a playwright and director. They owned their own theatre in Prague, in what is now the Czech Republic before escaping. My grandfather published at least one book (in Czech) and when they followed my dad to the USA, they formed a touring troupe. My dad did many years of community theatre and wrote an online autobiography that I’m planning on editing and publishing as a book. My dad majored in English, his 5th language, when he came to the states. He became a teacher and principal for many years.

I learned how to read before starting school and excelled in it given my love of books. I’m still remembered as the girl in elementary school who sat writing during recess. Books, both writing and reading, are an escape as well as outlet for me. When we lost one of our sons in 2010 I began to write as if my own life depended on it. Beginning with my first NaNoWriMo challenge, I wrote the first draft of Tunuftol’s Fortress of Light in only 3 weeks. That was approximately 75K words. Continue reading
