Interview with Diane M Robinson Part 2

Here is the second half of the magical interview with Multi Award Winning Author, Diane Mae Robinson.

Any fun facts about you that we do not know?

I’m an avid outdoors person; hard to get me to write my own name when summer comes. I have 5 horses, only one ofDMR Pic 1 which I ride. For several years, I rode with a synchronized, western musical riding group. We toured all over Alberta. I’ve had 2 concussions, yep, both horse related.

List your top ten memorable books.

Black Beauty, The Gnome Mobile, Wuthering Heights, Lord of The Rings, Anna Karenina, Of Mice and Men, The Great Gatsby, Great Expectations, The Chronicles of Narnia, Oliver Twist.

Who is your favorite character you have written?

Snarl, the dragon and secondary character, in The Pen Pieyu Adventures. He’s the royal steed and best friend to Petra (after he charred her somewhat), the main character. Snarls is also the royal chef. He is a completely unruly character and I never know where the story will land up because of his antics. His fire doesn’t work so well, actually, it’s quite out of control, so usual things happen.

Who is your least favorite character you have written?

I don’t have a least favorite character. All the characters in my series have some endearing qualities . . . yeah, even Bograt, the bog witch.

What is your style of writing (free flowing, planned, mixture)?

Well, after the movie in my head makes sense to me, the writing is quite free flowing. I am definitely a character writer or a plot writer.

What music do you listen to when you write?

Usually classical.

What is your routine when you write?

When in writing mode I am possessed. I wake up at 3:00 or 4:00 a.m. and write for 12 hours straight and wonder where I was teleported to during all those hours. This will go on for days or until I have to appear at my day job. Then the next weekend, the same routine will automatically happen, and every weekend after until the book is finished. It’s really exhausting.

How do you combat distractions when writing?

When I’m in possessed writing mode, I have to turn off all things that ring, ding, tweet, and whistle. I put on headphones and play quiet classical music. I put up my “Do Not Disturb” sign on my library door, so it’s “enter at your own risk” at that point.
